During World War II, women used eyebrow pencil to draw lines down the back of their calves to simulate stocking seams. Due to the war rationing, stockings were hard to come by because nylon was needed to make parachutes. Women used leg makeup (or cold tea) to darken their calves, then drew a line down the back to resemble a seam. The things us gals had and still have to go through for fashion and sex appeal!
